The Hoax

Elon Musk Made A Nazi Salute At An Inauguration Celebration

On January 20, 2025, Elon was giving a speech at the Capital One Arena in DC as part of Trump’s inauguration celebration. Critics point to Musk placing his hand on his chest, followed by extending his arm outward, as resembling a Nazi-style gesture. Media outlets and social media users accused Musk of mimicking a Nazi salute, with others amplifying the claim.

The selectively edited clip that was used to create the hoax.

What Really Happened

Elon Was Expressing Heartfelt Gratitude Towards The Crowd

In reality, the gestures Musk made were not a “Nazi salute” but heartfelt expressions of gratitude and appreciation toward the crowd. During his speech, Musk placed his hand on his chest, a universal gesture of sincerity, and extended his arm in an upward motion while thanking the audience for their support. Far from being a hateful gesture, Musk’s actions were accompanied by words of gratitude and a message about a hopeful vision for the future, including references to innovation, secure borders, and the ambitious goal of sending astronauts to Mars.

The misinterpretation stemmed from selective video editing and a biased framing of his gestures, taking them out of the larger context of his remarks. This selective presentation omitted his actual words and the clear intent behind the gestures, which were meant to convey appreciation and inspiration rather than anything sinister.

Hoaxology

Here are the techniques used to create and spread this hoax.

This hoax relied on two key techniques: selective video editing and media priming.

Selective Video Editing: The video was clipped to isolate Musk’s gestures, removing the broader context of his speech. Without his accompanying words of gratitude and vision, the gestures were easily misinterpreted.

Media Priming: For months, media outlets and political figures had painted Musk as antisemitic, despite providing little to no legitimate evidence. This narrative primed audiences to view Musk’s actions through a lens of suspicion. The edited clip acted as a trigger for confirmation bias, leading viewers to see what they were conditioned to expect. Priming is a foundational persuasion technique often used in hypnosis.

  1. Thanks for clarifying the record before these types of fake news can take hold!

  2. Thank you for debunking this immediately. Smooth brained people out there were looking for any little thing to criticize during the inauguration. Anyone with more than one brain cell knew he wasn’t performing a Nazi Salute.

  3. play the full video without the audience cut away…

  4. Why is the video on your page edited so that you don’t show the second salute, but cut to crowd instead?

  5. Why did you feel it necessary to use a clip which cut away from him? There are many which keep on Elon and allow you to see the second salute that he does.

  6. Your video clip doesn’t make it look any better. Neither do your apologetics.

Perhaps you should watch the video from multiple before you make a stupid blog post about it.

    1. Perhaps you should stop pretending liberals really have a problem with Nazis while ACTUAL Banderite Nazis in Ukraine are still burning through the billions in weapons the liberal party’s president sent them to conduct ethnic cleansing operations against the Eastern 1/3 of their own citizenry while liberal NPCs in the streets scream “Slava Ukraini” without knowing what it means, fly their flags, and try to silence critics with establishment excuses like “these Nazis are nuanced”? Because Punch a Nazi Day seems to have become Fund the Nazi Way at light speed and while it might be really inconvenient to y’all that this wasn’t forgotten I can assure you that Pepperidge Farm remembers.

      1. Are you okay?

  8. it was clearly a Nazi salute. claiming that Musk is not actually a Nazi is fair enough but doesn’t change the fact that it was exactly the same as a Nazi salute, why argue when its self evident?

    1. Ok. You win. It was a heartfelt gesture to the crowd that was identical to a Nazi salute.

    2. Because it’s not self evident. And because it’s selective outrage when liberals have been supporting real Nazis in Ukraine for the past 3 years and claiming they’re nuanced so it’s okay. My grandfather fought Nazis. He didn’t do that so Biden and his chucklehead citizen disciples could fund, arm, train, and cheer them. That same Biden that funded a genocide in Gaza which liberals are also making excuses about. Blaming Hamas as per orders when Zionists began violation of Palestinian civil rights in 1921 while Hamas didn’t exist until 1987. All of that outrage is a cheap hustle. These people screaming about Nazi salutes are only doing it because DNC and media headquarters told them to. They don’t even know when their real values are being violated anymore which is why they cheer against them on command, all. the. time. So tell us again what’s self evident.

      1. Listen, I agree the Dems fucked up, but it was a Nazi salute. There is no question about it.

  9. You need to add photos of various dems doing this, including AOC.

  10. Does anyone see the irony of a piece that decries selective video editing and then posts a video that selectively edits out Musk turning around and doing the same salute a second time? Come on people. If you’re not seeing that then what else are you missing?

  11. I’ve never seen such a group of dumbasses gathered on one site. Grow up.

  12. I don’t get it, is this satire?
