The Hoax
Trump Made Disparaging Remarks About Fallen American Soldiers And Expressed A Desire For Generals Like Those Used by Hitler
On October 22, 2024, The Atlantic published an article alleging that former President Donald Trump expressed a desire for generals like those in Nazi Germany and made a disparaging comment about the cost of burying American soldier Vanessa Guillen after offering to cover the cost. These claims surfaced just weeks before the election.

What Really Happened
The Atlantic Article Uses Hoax Methods Used In Previous Hoaxes
The Atlantic’s recent article has come under scrutiny for its two major claims: that Donald Trump expressed a desire for generals like those used by Adolf Hitler and made a crude remark about the cost of burying Mexicans. Both assertions reflect classic hoax methods.
Mayra Guillen, fallen soldier Vanessa Guillen’s sisters, and her family are disgusted over The Atlantic Article.

Hoaxology | How The Hoax Was Made
Selective Reporting
The article utilizes selective reporting, as it fails to provide a comprehensive context or counterpoints that would challenge its narrative, leading readers to accept these claims at face value without further investigation to validate the claims.
Anonymous Sources
The article employs anonymous sources to support its allegations, which makes it difficult to verify the authenticity of these statements or to assess the credibility of those making them. This reliance on unverifiable claims fosters speculation and contributes to a misleading portrayal of Trump’s views. Anonymous sources were also used in The Atlantic’s debunked story where Trump called fallen American soldiers “Suckers and Losers”.
Credibility Laundering
As a well-known publication, The Atlantic gives an unwarranted air of legitimacy to Goldberg’s claims, despite his track record of inaccuracies. From promoting the Iraq War with false information to previous election-season hit pieces (ie Suckers and Losers), Goldberg’s history casts doubt on his credibility.

It is also important to note that the owner of The Atlantic, Laurene Powell was in Kamala Harris’ family photo during her 2017 swearing in as US Senator. To think her publication wouldn’t be trying to get Kamala elected is absurd. Context matters. Also consider how The Atlantic has never questioned Kamala about how long she knew Biden was unfit to run for a second term, nor why she spoke up.
